When J joined Keys Supported Accommodation in the spring, he was facing significant challenges. Unable to return to his hometown due to safety concerns, he longed to be near a positive influence in his extended family—someone who played an important role in his life.
Understanding the importance of both safety and connection, Keys sourced a suitable home for J in a new town, ensuring it was on a convenient bus route to maintain his relationship with his family. This provided him with a fresh start in a secure environment, surrounded by the right support.
At the time, J was not in education or employment but had a strong interest in bricklaying. Since immediate opportunities in that field were unavailable, his support worker connected him with The Prince’s Trust. Through their 12-week program, J built confidence, formed new friendships, and developed leadership skills while learning to collaborate with others. This experience empowered him to apply for college and take the next step toward his future.
By the summer, when J turned 18, he was ready to move on from Keys. With the continued support of his key workers, he was able to secure a local connection and remain in the area where he had built his new life. Today, J is studying Bricklaying at college and actively bidding for housing, setting himself up for a bright and independent future.
J’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of the right support, the right opportunities, and a place to call home.
