Stacey* was referred to Rosavilla for a 12-week period of assessment following the birth of her baby. This was because of concerns professionals supporting her had around the challenges she had experienced in domestic violence and substance abuse.
These challenges led to her two older children being removed from her care. Initially, Stacey struggled to meet her baby’s basic care needs such as changing nappies, bottle feeding and bathing the baby. She needed regular prompting and encouragement to undertake this basic care.
During her time at Rosavilla Stacey ended her relationship with an abusive partner, arranged to move to a different town and ended all contact with him. The team at Rosavilla helped her access local mental health services where she also received support.
Stacey was very determined to start a new life and put safeguards in place both for herself and her baby. She worked closely with the team at Rosavilla and explored the impacts of the domestic violence and mental health crises she had experienced. She also explored the events which had led to her older daughters being removed from her care.
Her ability to positively and effectively parent her older children had been heavily impacted by domestic violence and the subsequent poor mental health Stacey experienced as a result of grief.
As Stacey’s assessment progressed she was able to meet her baby’s needs and overcome matters of concern. At the end of her time at Rosavilla, Stacey and her baby moved to her new home. She stays in touch with the team at the centre, often sending pictures and sharing updates.
