Welcome to Keys Children’s Family Assessment Centres, where we empower parents and families to make informed decisions about their children’s future and living arrangements.
Our nurturing approach ensures that you receive the support you need without judgment.
What is Family or Parenting Assessment?
Social workers and Judges sometimes have to make very difficult decisions about the futures of babies and their families.
Sometimes after a baby is born, they recommend that it is best that a parent, or family, spends time in a parenting assessment centre with their child, where experts can carefully observe them with their baby and assess parenting.
They then create an in-depth assessment which helps the professionals around the family make the best, and sometimes very difficult, decision for them and their baby.
What are Keys Family Assessment Centres?
Keys Family Assessment Centres offer a safe, supportive and collaborative environment for those assessments to be made and reports prepared.
Our centres offer residential parenting assessments, with babies and families staying with us for between 12 and 16 weeks, depending on their needs.
It is our role, and the purpose of our in-depth assessments, to help the professionals working with the parents, including judges, to make the best decisions for babies and their families.
Our four Centres are warm, welcoming and supportive places.
Unlike other family or parenting assessment services, we do not use CCTV to monitor or observe families; we believe in creating environments where relationships and nurturing are the key elements.
When we observe families, it is always with the utmost respect and sensitivity.
Each Centre offers a high level of staffing numbers, ensuring support is always available for families, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The aim is to replicate family life and reinforce positive parenting by creating a caring, nurturing, homely environment 24 hours a day.
Who can we support?
We can cater for a range of families within Family Assessment including:
- Families where a residential assessment is the preferred plan for them.
- Sole parents or families.
- Parents who may have been referred to us because they are very young, may have mental health or learning difficulties or may have experienced difficulties with drugs, alcohol or domestic abuse.
- Parents or families with learning disabilities or difficulties.
- Some of our centres can support parents or families who have another young child in one of our family rooms.
- Some of our centres are fully accessible for people who may use wheelchairs or have mobility difficulties.
- Some of our centres are experts in supporting people with significant or enduring mental health difficulties.
- Some of our centres offer support only to females.
