For Alcohol Awareness Week, staff at Keys Group have been promoting the theme ‘Change’ with the young people we support by discussing the harmful effects of alcohol and the impact it has on individuals and society in general.
Fran Gracie, Keys National Specialist Advisor for Substance Misuse, has been leading the sessions using some great resources from Alcohol Change UK. These resources have been shared across the company, and many of the Keys services have participated in educational and harm reduction sessions.
Michelle Woodward, Head Teacher at Fairways School, which is part of the Keys Care Group, commented “Students have worked on identifying the dangerous effects that alcohol has on the body. The young people created fantastic visuals (pictured right) that identified the differences of a person with alcohol issues and a person in sobriety.”
Fran delivered the training at the Wrexham Training Academy, focussing on Alcohol education and the impact of parental substance use on children and young people. (pictured left)
Alcohol Change UK reports that there are around 200,000 children in England living with an alcohol-dependent parent or carer, and this can have lifelong adverse effects.
