A YOUNG man whose anxiety and trauma meant he wouldn’t eat in front of others and wouldn’t use the toilet is, after support from the team at Millhouse residential children’s home, about to move to semi-independent living and has just taken his GCSEs after making remarkable progress.
Anthony came to the home experiencing significant attachment difficulties and his levels of anxiety were so high, he would only speak to certain members of staff in the team, wouldn’t eat in the same room as people, wouldn’t come out of his room to socialise and would hide when going to school.
Those team members who he would speak to would come in on their days off so he wouldn’t miss out on support.
But with careful and consistent support, no rush and clear boundaries and expectations set for both Anthony and the team, his progress has been fantastic.
While he previously wouldn’t come out of his room he now attends school full-time and enjoys ‘chilling’ out sometimes with the other children in the home, a massive step for him.
