A NEW concept support hub for young people moving on from care settings with Keys Group through towards their independence welcomed a VIP visitor recently.
The Hub, in Doncaster, was opened earlier this year by Keys Group, an organisation which supports children, young people and families in its specialist schools, residential children’s homes and leaving care services across the UK.
The Hub, located close to the city centre, provides a safe space for staff to come together as a community and for young people to come and find help and support as they make their journey to independence. Following an official opening back in July, the town’s MP Dame Rosie Winterton visited to find out more about The Hub and Keys’ Journey to Independence, a unique transition pathway which has been developed by Keys Group to give young people the best chance to become successfully independent.
Dame Rosie was welcomed at The Hub by Matt Mills, National Manager at Keys Leaving Care who said: “It was an honour to welcome Dame Rosie to visit the Hub and find out more about what we are providing for young people who are on their journey as they leave care and move on to independent living.
“We hope that this service model will, like the Journey to Independence, be rolled out across Keys and will act as a framework and foundation for us to support young people throughout their Leaving Care journey with Keys Group.
“The Hub is a new type of service model which will have many different functions – a safe space, a place to find support and a place to meet. It is about being present, visible and accessible in the local community, acting as a place where we can bring together all of our stakeholders.”
