Somerset Progressive School is celebrating receiving a National Award, after being announced winner of the Positive Behaviour Support Category at the National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards 2019.
The school, which is headed up by Head Teacher Karl Templeman, provides individually tailored education packages for young people aged 7-19 years.
Somerset Progressive enables young people to experience holistic education in a rural environment, which alongside the core academic subjects, allows students opportunities for outdoor education, animal care and horticulture. The school has a dedicated team of Autism champions to ensure a nurturing and supportive learning environment for every single student there. High staff to student ratios means that young people benefit from 1:1 tuition.
The school was therefore delighted to have its achievements formally recognised when it was shortlisted for the Positive Behaviour Support Award, and subsequently announced winner at the Awards Ceremony on the 28th June at the ICC, Birmingham. The Awards were created to celebrate excellence in the support for people with learning disabilities and aim to pay tribute to those individuals or organisations who excel in providing quality care.
When announcing Somerset Progressive School as the Winner of the Positive Support Award, the judges praised the school as having “An inspirational team, who are highly motivated and display a depth of knowledge. The team ensure the pupils, families and the multidisciplinary team are involved in a range of interventions to support learning and development. The curriculum is flexible and is person centred. The achievements are outstanding.”
