Keys Group are delighted to announce the opening of their new Crisis Intervention service located in Gloucestershire. The service is one of the few specialist homes that supports young people with complex needs to move from a disrupted or broken down placement to a more stable, permanent placement.
Selfwood is a newly refurbished 6 bedded home registered with Ofsted and is licensed by AALS (Adventurous Activities Licensing Service) to operate using adventurous activities.
The service is designed to build on the long-established successes of Keys existing crisis and activity services. Placements are short term (up to 90 day) with high staff ratios for each young person supported. Adventurous and outdoor activities such as climbing, kayaking, mountain biking and adventurous jumping are an integral part of the plan and complement high quality nurturing care which is committed to and focused on individualising the approach to meet the needs of every child placed. Young people stay in a range of accommodation as well as spending time at Selfwood itself during their placement. There is a strong focus on linking the outdoor activities to education and achieving accreditation through engagement.
Keys have an excellent track in offering resilient placements for young people with highly complex needs. Placements provide a positive interrupter to placement breakdowns and what can often be difficult cycles to break for some young people. Where appropriate Keys Crisis/Activity Services can offer alternatives to secure accommodation or a step down from secure as well as respite or emergency placements. The goal is that at the end of the program young people can move on to more permanent stable placements whether it be back at home, alternative longer term residential placements, fostercare or transitioning to living independently within the local community.
